Wanderer's Grounds Field House Rehabilitation Project - Status |

July 5th, 2010 Today on July 5th, HRM staff met with members of the WAAC and representatives of the Halifax Rugby Football Club and the Halifax Tars Rugby Club to inform them that they are recommending to HRM council to suspend previously approved funding toward the restoration of the Wanderers' Grounds Field House. A similar request for suspension of funding has been sent concurrently to the Federal RinC Sports infrastructure program, a funding partner in the project. Recent discovery of asbestos and mould, in combination with a much-accelerated deterioration of the basic structure, has created a situation where escalating restoration costs cannot be contained by the funding partners. In light of this recent development, the WAAC will support staff's recommendation on this initiative. The HRM staff has informed the WAAC that other alternatives will be developed, of which we will be kept apprised. At present, we await the final decision of HRM council. Please be advised that the interests of our donors and supports will be held in the forefront , once we have had the opportunity to assess the implications and determine our position in view of these new developments.
